See the sounds, hear the colors [Yuri Suzuki]

I came across this guy, over at Technabob’s, who caught this from The Dapper Alchemist. Yuri Suzuki is a Japanese (obviously) artist/designer, who lives currently in the UK, and has a number of interesting projects to show. I suggest you read both posts mentioned above, and then head over to Yuri’s page, to check all the nice stuff. His experiments also include some dj sets, that he offers for download. Be sure to check them out, especially if you’re into progressive house, or fusion (not exactly but close^^).

He’s even designed a mobile tea ceremony set!!!

I love you too…

I like technology, I make a living because of technology actually, and every time I run into a technophobic, I usually make a new enemy after talking to them for more than 5 minutes…

But there are some aspects of technology and by that I mean the use of technology that I have found a bit disturbing, for my taste at least…

Some times, when I get really bored and have absolutely nothing else to keep me buzy (while waiting at a queue for example), I like to play with my mobile phone, with the hope that I will discover a feature, a menu or whatever, that I didn’t know of (well, when you stick with the same phone for years, this doesn’t happen often, but you know what they say about hope).

So, as I was going through the SMS menu on my mobile phone the other day, I decided to have a look at the SMS templates, see i there is something I could use and delete the rest. Between the usual “Happy birthday” and “I will be late, because I stayed at the office, screwing my secretary, who by the way gives way better blow jobs than you”, I saw a template that said “I love you too”.

Before someone says that I take things too seriously, let me say that I do, some things at least. I’ve seen couples fighting over a bulletin at myspace, or a message in facebook, or a blog post or whatever, but this, I don’t know… It kind of frightens me… Not finding enought time to reply to a message from a loved one?

Oh, and my G** D**** phone won’t let me delete this!…

Hellboy II: The Golden Army [movie – no spoilers]

I was never a big fan of Hellboy. On second thought, I hardly like the comic and I hated the first movie. One could start an endless debate here, so I will use the ultimate secret technique of personal taste and get away with it ^^

I was curious however, to see what del Toro would do with the sequel and I publicly admit that although in most cases the sequels are worse than the first movie (“If you’d told us the truth, we would’ve told you to shove that red pill right up your ass“), I almost always watch them.

For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, I do not intend to spoil the fun (hence the “no spoilers” in the title), just say a few thoughts, some things I liked, some things I didn’t and maybe arrange an appointment with a shrink, because the things I liked were more than the things I didn’t like and I actually found it to be a pretty enjoyable movie.

The basic story is that the creatures of mythos, have been cast away by the humans, who did not honor the truce, after a bloody war that took place millenia ago. Nuada, Prince of the Elves, cannot stand to see his people live in hiding, so he takes it to himself, to  awaken the golden army, in order to rule over the humans. Guess who is caught in the middle of this. Right. Hellboy, the son of S, has to choose sides and work out the problems in his relationship with Liz at the same time.

Well, the concept of a world existing in the shadow of another world, is not new, you’ve seen it before, so  expect the usual, pumped up by Hellboy’s attitude. Relationships? You have to admit that seeing this from a different point of view (that would be the relationship between a hell spawn and a girl on fire) makes it somehow interesting.

I found what they did with the elves intriguing, not quite sure whether I liked it or not to tell you the truth, but I know I liked this one! Elves are supposed to be slender and beautiful with heightened features, proud and arrogant and trust me they were, but in a twisted, creepy sort of way. I’d like to hear another opinion on this, so feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

Yeah, it was not a spectacular movie, I don’t even know if I will watch it again (unless I stumble upon it late at night on TV), but I would be lying if I told you I didn’t enjoy it.

Why I will not use Google Chrome (yet)…

via Google

I like Google… I mean come on, few don’t like Google… I will not feel guilty because I like Google, I tell you! I will also not feel guilty writing about Chrome, everybody does these days…

I was more than happy when I read about the release of Google Chrome, and did just what the marketing experts expected me to do, downloaded and installed. Being a Firefox junkie, I had some thoughts about whether Chrome could actually replace Firefox, even though I have not heavily customized it. Since Chrome is something between Firefox and Safari (closer to Firefox) and since I have used both in the past, I had no problem adjusting, all my bookmarks, even my browsing history (hmmm) was there.

I was almost ready to throw Firefox away and use Chrome all the way, but I decided to leave it alone for a couple of days, to get a better feel of browsing with Chrome, you know, visit all my regular sites, do the stuff I usually do and in the mean time, read some opinions about it, see what other users think.

The complaint I heard most often, was the lack of add-ons. At fisrt I thought that this did not concern me at all, I use only No Script and Gmail Notifier, no themes, no Greasemonkey scripts, no fancy add-ons, I could surely manage. Except that I couldn’t…

I don’t mind that I can’t have the notifier within my browser, I could always install the program Google offers, but the script thingy, well, I just couldn’t live without.

Then I happened to read about the dark spot in Chrome’s Terms of service. Now, I am not one of those Big-Brother-is-watching-you fans, but you have to admit, when someone says that whenever you use one of their products, they have access to any information you exchange, it is something to trouble you, even a little. People have always suspected one company or another, sometimes rightfully, sometimes not, and this could be another such case, but it was right there, in their EULA, until they changed it.

The fact that the source code is right there for everybody to see, will clarify things in a little while, in the mean time, all those who want to use Chrome but are worried about Google finding out you’ve been surfing for porn, there’s always Chrome Anonymizer.

I think I will stick with the fox for a little longer… Now if you excuse me, I’m off to surf for porn

Yeah I know… Should have warned… But then again…

Until we are back operational, that means both me and this blog, you can enjoy Christopher Lee singing about the joys of drinking.
